Marlin

Wow, I have only seem a few fish the size that we teased up today. It was well over 900 lbs and I would say closer to 1000 plus #. The fish came in so hot and created huge holes in the water when it ate the teasers. Doug though it was two marlin, but he was looking at the same dorsal and tail of the same fish. In 30 yrs on the Pacific I have only seen a few fish that size behind the boat.

Marlin fishing is okay today, but tough for fly fishing. The fish are eating on the bait balls and then going dead again. They want nothing to do with the teasers.

We are going to hedge our bets and go inshore for rooster action

I will keep you posted

Doug Roche Roosterfish fever

Heres a short video of Doug Roche fishing with his 15 year old daughter Ally. It was super fishing today... Tons of roosterfish busting bait all around us.. 2to 3 hours of non-stop action... Lots of jacks, and sierra also... You gotta love it, when he left home a few days ago it was 8 degrees and snowing....It was 80 degrees today and great fishing...

Sierra fever

Doug and Ally get a double. It's a sierra every cast

Ally's first Sierra of the day

Here we go again. Douce and his 15 yr old daughter Ally going inshore fishing. The inshore fishing has been okay, but the offshore fishing has been slow. I will keep you posted

Nate and Kate and some sierra mackerels.

Congratulations to Nate and Kate on getting married this fall.. These two are the perfect couple as both of them are fishing and hunting guides... Can anyone say Ceviche?

Roosters anyone?

John Capuzzo and his daughter Veronica have some rooster fun! What a great father /daughter experience. I hope my girls are fishing with me when they get Veronicas age...

Thats one of my original brown roosterfish fly in the fishes mouth. Still catching fish 20 years later!

Mini Fishing report

Okay, I have been on and off the water this last week, the guys have been going out, but I wanted some time off the water to spend with my family....

The guys have been going out and the fishing has been good some days and so-so the next.. Marlin fishing has been slow since the last full moon. My buddies have been seeing them on the sonar down at 500 to 600 feet chasing bait down deep... I know they are also gorging themselves on squid as the marlin we were catching were spewing out tons of small 3" to 4" squid when we hooked them and also when we released them. I will add a few photos below.

The marlin fishing is off, but the dorado fishing has a new surge... Not big ones, but its pretty good fishing on some days... The inshore fishing is definitely picking up and its too much fun chasing big jacks, roosterfish and sierras...

The weather is gorgeous.. 80 degree sunny days, and cool nights... Man, I love living here!

Slow day yesterday

Wow, some days are just like yesterday. If you fish for marlin long enough, these days happen... It was just a dead day, no fish at all. Zippo, nada, zero, I mean not a darn thing.... A empty sea, not a thing moving but the whales and porpoises... Some boats got into a few football sized tuna, but thats about it... When the fish want to stay deep and not eat, its a very big ocean... Sometimes you pay your dues... Do I think this is the trend.. Absolutely not, there are a ton of fish out there and the fishing will be back to normal in a few days...Heck it could be right on today.

The inshore remains really good for roosterfish... Some big ones too, and small sierra along the shore...

The whales are migrating back and they are so cool to see... We were with four humpback whales for over an hour yesterday. I am still amazed after 30 years of being on the ocean everyday..

The guys are still on the water, but I am taking a few days off. I have been steady on the water for over a month and half, it will be nice to rest my toes in the sand and have a cold one on the beach..

I will keep you posed.

Father and Son trip

I love to fish father and sons... It reminds me of my times growing up with my father. Here is Mark Russ and his son Jack with a fun day on the water. First we went after some roosterfish and found some nice fish up to #25, then we went offshore and got this nice bull dorado about 35#. We lost another bull dorado shortly after that was much bigger.. All in all, it was a great day on the water.
