An enormous GT caught by a friend at Xmas Island. The guides were arguing if it was 80 or 90 lbs, but both said it was the largest G.T. they had ever seen landed on the fly. You can see the fly in its mouth. It was, by far, the group’s best pattern for the real bruisers during the trip.

My good buddy Gar and his friend Tony were out with us today and had a heck of a good day on the water... He said he wanted to go offshore and thought he was nuts... The marlin fishing had been slow..Well, after over 30 years on the ocean, nothing surprises me anymore, but when Alex called me around 11am and said they had already got 8 tuna, 6 dorado, and a striped marlin, I was pleasantly surprised.. Here are a few photos of their great day fishing with us..

Bob caught 4 snapper and a jack and at the end a few Sierra. Now that's a slow day. The fishing is so good in Cabo, that a good day on the water anywhere else is our slow days. It was slow because the cold front pushed through. Our cold fronts are nothing like yours. Just some clouds and a drop in pressure

Okay enough of that.

Bob is a great guy and a lot of fun to fish with. He is fishing again on Thursday, and I will keep you posted

here is a quickie..

The inshore fishing is just really good. Lots of shots at roosterfish, jacks, sierras and snappers..Both fly and light spinning rods... The roosterfish are being roosterfish, and biting some days and others just following, but shots are the key to a good day... The sierra are going pretty strong most days, and the bite is right now.. I love sierra, not only because they are tasty, but they are gamefish. Lots of action and great fighters. The jacks are everywhere and some real big brutes over 20 to 30 lbs.. Some small fish too. The cubera snapper are starting to get hot.. we are catching them almost everyday with both fly and spin.. Now talk about a great gamefish, strong as heck, and super tasty fish tacos...

the offshore fishing is good most days, especially light tackle. YF tuna running offshore with the porpoise... Small fish and some really bug fish over 200 lbs...

Dorado fishing has dropped off, but with a little luck you can catch some and the marlin fishing is inconsistent. With some super days and then others its hard to find a fish..

The weather is super, warm sunny days everyday, it doesn't get nicer than this.. Sure beats the cold weather back home.

I cant believe it, I tell him not to swim, its not good for his electrical circuits, but does he listen... NOOOO. So he took another swim, and I am sorry to say, that he didn't take my advice and jumped right out of my hand into the surf. I tried to revive him, and take him into the Cell Doctor, but he dint make it.. SOOO.. No live reports for a short while until we can get a replacement for him...I will be getting the photos at the end of each fishing day and uploading them that way..

I shot this short video of my beach trip with Mitch Slater. We hooked two big snook, and lost them and we saw many more, but couldnt get them to eat... We saw tons of big roosterfish, but we were looking for snook or big snapper... Its not unusual to catch snook up to 40 or 50 lbs...

Off to go surfing now, and on the boats again early next week with my buddy Justin Clasvalka for marlin. Cant wait!

Hi Folks,

Cabo is just beautiful right now, all of the summer heat is gone and it is about as nice outside as it gets. Daytimes highs are in the high to mid 70s and nighttime is in the mid 60s. Perfect weather for fishing, golfing and just have a relaxing day at the beach.

Another beautiful thing is the great fishing ... Its just really good fishing, actually its super. If you want a marlin on the fly, mixed in with Dorado, YF tuna and roosterfish, its time to get down to Cabo, now. Time to take advantage of this good bite we have right now...

The striped marlin fishing has been so-so all Oct-Nov. We had some good marlin days on the water, but most of the time, the fish just didn't want to bite. Well that changed. Yahoo! at last.

I will get to that in a minute, first I will tell you why it changed.. Cabo has had exceptionally warm water all fall, it was in the low 80's when it should have been in the mid 70s. Yep, striped marlin like water temps around 70-78 degrees. But whats more important, is that the bait (slimy green mackerel) like cooler water temperature, and thats the key... The cooler water moved South down the coast from Mag Bay, and like a river, it brought the bait, and the marlin with it...

What does that mean to Cabo, well it means its really good marlin fishing. It's good now, but as the migration continues down, the fishing might get as good as 3 and 4 years ago, with marlin, whales and everything crashing the bait balls off golden gate banks. Lets cross our fingers, as stellar bites like that are few and far between.

The dorado fishing continues to be good...Plenty of fish around, even some real grandes out there, but most are 25 lbs and under. We are catching anywhere from 4 to 10 dorado on most days.

Some good fishing for YF tuna if you can find the schools with the porpoise. No real big fish, mostly footballs, but lots of fun, on the fly and spin.

Here's some real good news. We are catching some really nice sized roosterfish off the boats. 20 pounds plus on the fly and spin rods.. Roosterfish are my favorite fish to catch. They are just spectacular to catch and look at...We release all roosterfish, no exceptions, same goes for all billfish..

We have been having a lot of fun on my beach fishing trips to the East Cape. We are catching lots of small roosterfish, but we have had shots at bigger fishy's every day..

This year I am providing beach camping trips up the remote Pacific for snapper, snook, corvina. You wont find this kind of fishing anywhere in the world like this.. We catch huge fish off the beach with fly and spin...Camping is with tents and we camp where there isn't a soul around...We eat a lot of fresh fish, and have enjoy late nights looking at all the beautiful stars. We fish both night and day. I have caught many snook over 40 lbs, but much bigger fish lurk those waters... These trips are fun safe adventures. I provide 3 to 7 day excursions in Nov-mid Feb. I also do corvina/halibut trips off the beach. These trips are a great adventure. We travel up the coast to a small town that has a clean hotel and fish locally form there.Its mostly corvina, snappers and halibut from the beach, but occasionally a big snook or grouper. One of the nice things about this trip is that you don't need to throw a fly a mile to catch fish, most anyone can cast a fly 30 to 40 feet and thats all you need. Hi Grant,
Thank you for another great flyfishing trip. I've been fishing at different destinations along the Baja Peninsula for 15 years with numerous guides and outfitters that all proclaimed themselves as flyfishing experts. Invariably, they have boat captains whose flyfishing toolbox consists entirely of either throwing sardines or trolling. I've learned over the years that the better the flyfishing guide/outfitter, the less you are asked to troll flies. Baja Angler's boat captains are the only ones that have never asked me to troll a fly and do everything in their power to give me as many opportunties to flycast to feeding fish as possible. Their enthusiasm and knowledge are without equal.

Your boats are the only ones I've seen that are actually designed with the flyfisher in mind - no bruised shins and thighs from trying to flyfish out of a panga. Your captains are the only ones I've encountered that all speak English. This has given me the opportunity to learn about the fish and the ecology of the ocean around Cabo San Lucas and makes even the worst fishing days fun. Your captains have also never resented my releasing fish, another rarity in Mexico.

While all of these things are paramount for a good flyfishing experience, there are often overlooked little things that Baja Anglers does to ensure the most pleasant trip possible and separate themselves from the "others"; spraying saltwater off of fishing rods and reels at the end of the day, personal attention in medical emergencies, and employees with a great sense of humor. I hope many of the other flyfishermen and women who have tried flyfishing in the Baja with captains that throw sardines and troll, have an opportunity to fish with your captains so they can truly experience inshore and offshore flyfishing at its finest.

While I know there are some places in Mexico that are very dangerous, thankfully, Cabo San Lucas isn't one of them. I've always felt completely safe. Take care and I'll see you next year!

The fishing yesterday was so much fun. We had hungry marlin up for the fly, but couldn't hook up. We then had a school of dorado move in and it was great non stop action. We saw more marlin towards the end of the day, but they had closed mouth and would eat a thing. We got one more dorado to end the day in style

This is Jan and myself yesterday morning. Jan is one of the good guys and is my brother from another mother. Always upbeat and happy. Great guy. We only caught dorado yesterday.

I gave Jan that shirt he has on. I won it in a fly tournament in 2000. He got his first striped marlin wearing the shirt, and he won't wash the blood off it, only rinses it. Superstitious fisherman. I love it!

I came across these guys building a house out of the dirt they dug up to make the foundation. Some straw and water and that's it. Very cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Great guys and I call that a true Eco home. They will finish it with palm fronds on the roof.
