What a way to start the day

We went on a east cape trip and had a blast. Lots of smaller fish like lady fish and small roosters, but we had chances at big fish as well. They are great guys, and it was a pleasure taking them fishing

Mike caught 8 dorado today on the fly and we lost as many. We had triple hookups. It was a lot of fun. The dorado fishing is very good right now with shots at marlin. This is what Cabo is all about.

"Grant thank you so much for sharing your local knowledge with us while in Cabo.  We also enjoyed our day on on the water with your professional captain and mate.  The day was a bit sporty with winds gusting to 20 but in only took about 45 seconds from the first lure we deployed to get a bite!  After loading up on some Skip Jacks for bait we headed further offshore.  In no time we had our first Dorado on.  After picking up our first cow and resetting we had another cow hit the right long.  While I was fighting that the captain and mate cleared the rest of the lines and pitched out a live goggle eye and we soon had a double header with a nice bull smoking the drag on a spinning reel.  He handed it to my wife Amanda and she held on tight letting the fish run.  She faught it about 1/2 way to the boat and the fish dove deep.  She let me finish off the fight which was a lot of fun on the lighter tackel.  Set on enough Dorado to feed a small vilage we went in search of bill fish.  The captain soon spotted a tailing Striped Marlin and showed me what to look for.  We cleared the lines and ran up in front of him and pitched a goggle eye out back and waited for him to tail his way down current to us.  Soon he was there all lit up and crcling the bait.  He ate it and I let him eat it for for an 8 count and reeled tight.  He was on and not knowing he was hooked yet.  The bait came free and swam for its life,  the captain instructed me to free spool it and sure enough he came back and ate it again this time taking off on an aerial assault which lasted for a couple minutes before dislodging the hook.  Even though we didn't land that fish it was one of the coolest experiences of my life.  We saw 2 more tailing marlin on the way in but they had already eaten lunch and were not hungry.  It was a great day out on the water and fun to experience a change of environment from normally fiishing the Atlantic.

 

I highly recommend Baja Anglers to anyone looking for a unique fishing experience.  Light tackel fishing is where its at if you like the sport of it and are up for a challenge.

Rain in the street of Cabo

3 Ed day, still raining. We need it

It's been so long since it rained, this is wonderful news for us desert rats it could rain for a week and it wouldn't be enough.

We caught 6 dorado yesterday on very light spinning rods. Bass sized rods actually. John holds up the biggest of the lot. It was a lot of fun to fish with John again , he is a very fungus to fish with. Last time we fished John got a 60 plus pound dorado.

First rain in over 3 years

We really need this. It's been a long dry spell for us.

Gon and his 3 boys went out yesterday, they looked for dorado, but the bite slacked off, so they went inshore and caught a few nice roosters.  Way to go guys!

I'm back! July 25th

Hi Folks,
Boy have I got a lot of flack for not posting over the last few months... Mostly I have been out of town fishing my beach trips and seminars while the boys are here in Cabo taking folks out locally..

May n June recap.  May N june are traditionally super months to fish the Cabo area, its when we get the giant roosters and all other great inshore fish like jacks and snappers, and its usually very good marlin fishing... This spring we were hit with the el Nino cold water and really messed things up..I mean, we had some very good fishing days, but one day the water is 78 and the next its 68, what the heck.  Fish don't like that.. So even thought he big fish were here, they sure didn't want to eat...So it was a so-so season here in Cabo.

Same goes for the beach on the east cape, it was super until the cold water took over, then the fishing was off, we cast and hooked big fish almost everyday, but the cold water had a huge effect on the fish..

Right now, we have had some super offshore fishing, and then, again, its slow for a day or two.. Still some very big roosterfish inshore.

I have some pictures form last month that I will post in the next few blogs.
