Wow, I have only seem a few fish the size that we teased up today. It was well over 900 lbs and I would say closer to 1000 plus #. The fish came in so hot and created huge holes in the water when it ate the teasers. Doug though it was two marlin, but he was looking at the same dorsal and tail of the same fish. In 30 yrs on the Pacific I have only seen a few fish that size behind the boat.

Marlin fishing is okay today, but tough for fly fishing. The fish are eating on the bait balls and then going dead again. They want nothing to do with the teasers.

We are going to hedge our bets and go inshore for rooster action

I will keep you posted

Doug Roche Roosterfish fever

Heres a short video of Doug Roche fishing with his 15 year old daughter Ally. It was super fishing today... Tons of roosterfish busting bait all around us.. 2to 3 hours of non-stop action... Lots of jacks, and sierra also... You gotta love it, when he left home a few days ago it was 8 degrees and snowing....It was 80 degrees today and great fishing...

Sierra fever

Doug and Ally get a double. It's a sierra every cast

Ally's first Sierra of the day

First Sierra of the day

Doug Roche father and daughter day

Here we go again. Douce and his 15 yr old daughter Ally going inshore fishing. The inshore fishing has been okay, but the offshore fishing has been slow. I will keep you posted

Nate and Kate and some sierra mackerels.

Congratulations to Nate and Kate on getting married this fall.. These two are the perfect couple as both of them are fishing and hunting guides... Can anyone say Ceviche?

Roosters anyone?

John Capuzzo and his daughter Veronica have some rooster fun! What a great father /daughter experience. I hope my girls are fishing with me when they get Veronicas age...

Thats one of my original brown roosterfish fly in the fishes mouth. Still catching fish 20 years later!

Mini Fishing report

Okay, I have been on and off the water this last week, the guys have been going out, but I wanted some time off the water to spend with my family....

The guys have been going out and the fishing has been good some days and so-so the next.. Marlin fishing has been slow since the last full moon. My buddies have been seeing them on the sonar down at 500 to 600 feet chasing bait down deep... I know they are also gorging themselves on squid as the marlin we were catching were spewing out tons of small 3" to 4" squid when we hooked them and also when we released them. I will add a few photos below.

The marlin fishing is off, but the dorado fishing has a new surge... Not big ones, but its pretty good fishing on some days... The inshore fishing is definitely picking up and its too much fun chasing big jacks, roosterfish and sierras...

The weather is gorgeous.. 80 degree sunny days, and cool nights... Man, I love living here!

Slow day yesterday

Wow, some days are just like yesterday. If you fish for marlin long enough, these days happen... It was just a dead day, no fish at all. Zippo, nada, zero, I mean not a darn thing.... A empty sea, not a thing moving but the whales and porpoises... Some boats got into a few football sized tuna, but thats about it... When the fish want to stay deep and not eat, its a very big ocean... Sometimes you pay your dues... Do I think this is the trend.. Absolutely not, there are a ton of fish out there and the fishing will be back to normal in a few days...Heck it could be right on today.

The inshore remains really good for roosterfish... Some big ones too, and small sierra along the shore...

The whales are migrating back and they are so cool to see... We were with four humpback whales for over an hour yesterday. I am still amazed after 30 years of being on the ocean everyday..

The guys are still on the water, but I am taking a few days off. I have been steady on the water for over a month and half, it will be nice to rest my toes in the sand and have a cold one on the beach..

I will keep you posed.

Father and Son trip

I love to fish father and sons... It reminds me of my times growing up with my father. Here is Mark Russ and his son Jack with a fun day on the water. First we went after some roosterfish and found some nice fish up to #25, then we went offshore and got this nice bull dorado about 35#. We lost another bull dorado shortly after that was much bigger.. All in all, it was a great day on the water.

Great light tackle day

What a great day it would have been for light tackle.. I had over 12 striped marlin eat my baits and teased to the boat, all lit up, but only one ate the fly, and we lost it to a wrapped fly line on the reel...... The marlin were following the baitballs and would return to the baitball the moment the teaser was pulled away...

Thats fishing.

Jan and I go at it again today...

Darn iphone wont work again... just a few drops of salt water and the darn things start to act up.. they need to make these things Grant proof.

Keeping you posted, and living the dream..

Jan Forszpaniak ready to go

Justin's marlin

Sorry I dropped off the map, I was beat after fishing, then had to start cooking for Thanksgiving dinner. It takes me two days to cook Thanksgiving dinner, but it's worth it.

Justin's day brought six fish to the boat. Three teased up hot, and two hooked and lost and we saved the day with a striper on light spinning tackle.

Justin is a great fisherman, just some bad luck and a slow full moon fishing period. Next year Mi Amigo

Justin Caslavka and a new day

Yesterday Justin and I had an off day, but today is his birthday. I hope we can make it one to remember.

My buddy Randall wrote me and said" the rooster one day the feather duster the next". Ain't that the truth, but I love being the rooster.

I will keep you posted

Slow day

Wow! What a off day for us. We had a few marlin teased to the boat one ate the fly We saw a lot of fish, but we were just off and couldn't catch the fish.

I felt like a out of tune guitar. Always the wrong note. I guess we had it coming. For the last month, I could do no wrong, sharp, just like a surgical instrument. Yea baby, what a great streak. Back at it tomorrow. Big fish, lots of them

Joseph talks about his day

Joesph Koenig from Dallas Texas gets his second striped marlin on the fly

Joseph and his 13 yr old daughter Jordan are fishing with me today. This is Joseph's first time marlin fishing on a fly, and he has already caught two marlin and Jordan caught a dorado.

Yesterday the fishing was slow and Tony the Tank hooked one marlin and lost it to my mistake. 4 more marlin came to the boat and they wouldn't eat the fly

Man I love this game

Last day with Tony the Tank

Wow, what a day yesterday! We teased in 9 marlin and the Tank caught 2 of them. I screwed up the rest trying to take a underwater photo of them eating the fly. The fish would shy away when they saw me Tony is so cool, he didn't mind a bit , actually he was quite stoked. It was a ton of fun Tony is a very good friend and I hate to see him go. all good things must end, but you dont have to like it a bit It was a great adventure.

Good luck today Tank. My brother from another mother.

Grant waiting on the stern to go in and get action shots of a marlin taking the fly. We had one come in but no shots. I did come close to hooking Grant. According to Gisel if I do hook Grant I have to throw him back.
